21 Aug CWA unity raises pay
Strong unions of working people continue to deliver results. The Communications Workers of America (CWA), in negotiations with AT&T West and DirecTV, won pay raises, better health care and stronger retirement security. America’s working people congratulate the members of CWA, and thank each worker for helping to raise the bar for the rest of us.
Message of the Day—CWA Unity Raises Pay
CWA members in California and Nevada ratified an agreement with AT&T West that provides for wage increases, pension improvements and other gains, while blocking AT&T’s demands for givebacks that would have cut pay, hiked up health care costs and taken away sick days from current employees.
For 2,200 DirecTV technicians and workers in those states, this contract means improvements in health care, work rules and, for many, the first wage increase in more than two years.
Overall, more than 10,000 DirecTV workers nationwide now have a voice and a contract.
The AFL-CIO is committed to giving every worker the freedom to negotiate for a better life.
